What helps?

I personally have no ideal what its like to actually be dependent on a chemical substance of any kind, but however, I know what it is like to be raised by someone in need of drugs and alcohol. My mother was very abusive and very much in denial about her problem. I have to say, from my POV, it was my problem as well, because I had to deal with it on the other side. I made a point not to continue the cycle, as, alcoholism has played a very strong role in my maternal family's life.

How can we help you? I still have emotions toward my mother, and call her ever so often to "discuss" (probably not the most appropriate word) my feelings about it. Does talking with someone help you? Do you go to meetings? Therapy? What helps?
